What - Up? ... This page contains some recent historical information.

Pro Exhibition

Recently at a Saturday night social, the format was an exhibition match. The match featured Jesse Walter and JJ Jackson against prominant juniors Max Manthou and Bryan Thorp. They played just a pro set and old guys won 8-6. BETC's junior members cheered for their pros throughout the match. Above is a shot taken after the match. The group is displaying "peace-out".

BETC's Future Stars

Teaching Pro Jesse Walter stepped off the court and on to the bleechers with BETC's next generation of juniors ages 9 through 14. Left to right they are: Naevin Anukornchaikul, Naris Anukornchaikul, Jeremiah Bayna, Wyatt DeMulling, Erik Takami, Coach Jesse, Matt Lee, Jack Smith, Kara Ikeda, Henry Smith, and Sam Bayna. They are asking us to hang loose!

Tim Colligan with his son Zachery prior to Tim playing in the Men's 4.0 Singles
league on Mondays at 3:30.

Members Ed and Kelly Baker were recently found on court 3. Dad, Ed took a (rare) day off of work while daughter, Kelly had a day off of school. They hit and giggled for a good hour and a half yet stopped long enough on a change over so that we could snap this shot.

A new membership is available for those that are only around during the summer time. It is a membership that starts on Memorial Day which this year is May 28th and ends on September 3 Labor Day. Players may play in leagues after all Share and Associate members are satisfied. They may also reserve court time 5 days in advance and sign-up for as many lessons as they desire. An application is available at the link provided.

2007 Challenge Cup Team

Shown to the side, are some of the players on our 2007 Challenge Cup team. Challenge is one of six levels of daytime interclub competition. With twenty two teams participating this past year in Challenge Cup, Boeing finished in about the middle of the pack. The players shown are: Fran Shintaku, Janie Matheson, Denise Bakke, Vicki Lord, Liz Buck, Jan Ferrera, Cathy Burnett and Shannie Presuhn. Not shown are: Mary Lynn Archer, Marcia Holland-Risch, Tracy Lockhart, Sue Meile, and Janet Stallman.

2007 - Credit Card Survey Results
425 members responded to the credit card survey which asked members if they would be willing to absorb the associated expenses that go along with credit cards. 53 % of the membership voted against the use of credit cards.

Guest Rates and Policies
The Club is looking into its guest rates and policies. The sense is that several people use the facility (at least on a weekly basis) and since they are not a member, are escaping any payments towards our new roof. The club is looking at what other clubs do regarding guests and will announce any decision (s) in the near future.

The Doubles Club Champions results are available at the link provided.

The past 5 years BETC has donated court time on Monday and Friday mornings to the senior citizens center in Kent. To the right are some of the players in that program.

This shot is of Zack Ahyat and Max Manthou. Zack is from Reggie Ahyat and Valorie Ahyat (Lim). He has a sister named Jazzie who also plays.
Max is the son of Frank and Judy Manthou and he has a sister named Tess - who is also very cool... Btw, last year Max was ranked #8 in Nation in the 14's - Since turning 15, Max is now currently #1 in the 16's in the PNW region!
Max and Zack - we are very proud of you both!

During the January (2006) snow storm, the Thorp family came down to entertain the lonely staff. Shown are: Jamie and Conner on court 4, Jim (Dad) and Mitchell on 5 (center court), and Mary Ann and Brian on # 6. Thanks for amusing me - Janet.

BETC is fortunate enough to have 3 High School State Champions in their midst. Sophmore, Melinda Wong won the 3A State Championship at the University of Washington on Saturday defeating Lilli Sander of Mercer Island 6-4, 6-3. Meanwhile, at the Tri-City Court Club, David and Dane Miller played for the 4A title defeating Nick Bjork and Tudor Barac of Lewis and Clark 6-0, 6-1. (The match lasted 39 minutes.) This was the Miller brothers 3rd state title! Congratulations Melinda, David and Dane!

January 23 Club Member Mike Lockhart (laying in front) ran a Calcutta at BETC. The
event started at 9:30 am and ran through the 5:00 pm session. With the food and great
tennis, members had a good time. Congratulations to John Enthoven and Vivian Nagai who
won the event. Captured in the photo is the entire group.

Washington State Open - 2002

One of many members who participated in the Washington State Open, club and staff member Kay Lorrain competed in the Women's 35's. Kay beat Leslie Fox of Kirkland in the first round 6-3,7-5 and in this match, she lost to the #1 seed Jennifer Shorr of Seattle who went on to win the tournament. Nice backdrop eh?

BETC's Wednesday Block Time Group

For over 25 years, this group of ladies has met on Wednesday mornings at 9:30 to, as they call it, smash and laugh or swat or giggle. Thanks for your support to BETC all these years!

In the back row: Ida Anderson, Verda Horsfall, Eileen O'Brien, Cathy Clark and Miho Pell. In the front row: Carol Samek, Sidney Cass, and Edith Shuman.
