To make better use of our racquetball courts
and simply to have a lot of fun, in 2011 BETC added Pickleball to
its programing. A net can be installed or removed in just a couple of minutes.
Pickleball is played with a paddle and a wiffleball. It is said to be a
lot easier on the body than tennis because the smaller
court makes for less moving around. There is more net play in pickleball than
which is more of a baseline game. You're not doing as much running around in
pickleball because your not covering as much territory although it is very aerobic.
In this photo are members Cliff Green and Herman Chin in the near
court and Lawson Mansfield and Chris Willman in the far court.
The white lines define the inner area of pickleball and the exterior walls define the
outer boundaries. At BETC, members may either bring their own paddle or rent (.50) one from us.
Balls may also be rented (.25) or purchased for a dollar. Court fees are standard
racquetball rates and reservation may be made through the front desk by phoning
BETC at 253-872-5545 ext 1. Games are usually 2 out of 3 and played to 11. The
official website
may be found at the link provided or BETC's
local rules (link provided) or posted in the lobby of the racquetball area.
Enjoy!
