FAQ

Q. Do I have to be a Boeing employee to join BETC?

A. No, we junior and public membership categories.

Q. Why are there different payment options for my new membership?

A. The options facilitate payment of the capital fund fee. You may pay the fee up front or over time. If you choose to pay over time, there is a $70 fee added on.

Q. Can I reserve a court as a non-member?

A. You may call in at 8am in the morning, to see if any courts are available. If there is a court available, you may reserve it. We take cash or check only.

Q. When can I reserve a court?

A. Members may reserve as many courts as they would like within their particular reservation priviledges beginning at 8am (Share and Associate 7 days, B330 5 days, Junior Affiliates 3 days.). Share (Boeing) members may also have up to 1 court reserved during prime-time (5-9:30pm M-Th) up to a month in advance.

Q. I am finding it hard to find a court, any suggestions?

A. Here at the website, on the left side there is a link to the court availability table. It is updated 3 times a week, and shows when courts are available. We would also suggest you look into league play or if the particular court you want is not open, ask to have your name added to the waiting list. Many of our prime time courts are set aside for the many leagues we offer.

Q. How do I join a league?

A. Leagues run quarterly and we have several types of leagues. Look for the sign up period and make sure you have a USTA or pro rating.

Q. How do I get a USTA or pro rating?

A. You can get a pro rating by coming to one of the pro socials and asking Allan to rate you. You can also schedule a private lesson with Allan or Bill to have either of them evaluate you. You need to play on a USTA league team to receive a computer rating. If you play USTA and have a self rating, for club leagues that are skill level specific you will still need a club rating. Lastly, the USTA website has a table with information on their rating system.

Q. What is the guest fee?

A. $12 plus any court fees.

Q. Can a non-member sub in the league for me?

A. Yes, but please try to find a member first for a sub. The non-member must pay the guest fee.

Q. What are the court fees?

A. Member court fees are $6 each for 1 ½ hours of singles or $3.50 each for 1 ½ hours of doubles. Non-members add $12 to the above fees.

Q. Do you have any tournaments?

A. Yes, we have several tournaments. We have both member only and open tournaments. The open tournaments are in May, September and December and May. The member tournaments are in October and February. We host a few USTA junior tournaments. Check the tournament page of this website for more information.

Q. When do I have to cancel a tennis court to avoid a late cancellation fee?

A. Except for a court reserved on the same day, all courts must be cancelled 48 hours in advance. If a court is cancelled late and staff is able to resell it, the late cancellation fee (court fee) will be waived. For racquetball or handball, all reservations mst be cancelled 6 hours in advance to avoid a late cancellation fee. For more information, visit Operations and Procedures Page (PDF).

Q. What is court card?

A. A Court Card (some staff refers to them as count downs) are pre-paid court time. They may be purchased in increments between $20 and $200. They make it easier on members by not having to write a check each time or carry the cash. We also have cards for the ball machine or private lessons with a particular pro.

Q. Where do I get a key for back doors?

A. Just ask at the front desk and there is a $5.00 deposit fee.

Q. Can I reserve a court online?

A. Not yet but we hope to add this service.

Q. Darn! I have to cancel my membership - what do I need to do?

A. We always regret to hear this and hope that sometime in the future, you will be able to come back. Please write the club a note either on the statement you just received or send us an email at this link provided. State that you need to cancel your membership effective ____. If possible, we would appreciate hearing your reason. For those members on payroll deduction, staff will send Boeing's dues cancellation form but for all others, this is all you need to do. If you expect a deposit or refund, please provide us an address where you would like the check sent.

Q. I don't know what my rating is. When can I get rated?

A. Members may receive a club rating one of two ways:
1. Quarterly our Head Pro Allan Overland holds a rating session. The rating clinics are in conjunction with quarterly sign-ups for leagues. The rating takes about 30 minutes and is free of charge. Look for information in the newsletter or posted at the club. 2. The last Saturday of the month is generally when the monthly social is held. At each social, time is devoted to those who need a club rating.

Q. Why are dues the same for one single (adult) person using the Club as they are for potentially five or more (2 parents and 3 kids) using it?

A. Compared to other clubs that have significantly higher monthly dues that include court time, BETC's philosophy has been to offer more economical monthly dues and members are charged for only the court fees they utilize. Subsequently, the more members within a family the more user fees they pay.

Q. What is Block Time?

A. Block time is at least 12 weeks of prepaid court time during non prime time hours. Block times may be for singles or doubles play and all participants must be members. They are granted at the disgression of the Manager and once scheduled, a member or group must plan on supporting that time frame yearround.
